You can Farm by Joel Salatin    The Entrepreneur's Guide to Start & Succeed in a Farming Enterprise
Joel Salatin writes a great book. It was very informative and an enjoyable read. It's as if he is sitting in the room with you telling you exactly what you need to do to be successful at farming on your own terms, as it should be done. I would recommend this book to anyone the slightest bit curious about how America can improve its food supply and help its rural economy. The techniques that he describes begin with respect for the land, respect for the animals, respect for the environment, and respect for the people that produce the food.Salatin also points out that we have very little, if any, knowledge about the materials we ingest many times each day. Many of us  do not know where our "food" came from or what it took to make it.
This book is filled with stories of successes and failures of many people and various farm enterprises.  The author uses holistic management fundamentals on his farm which provide a firm structure for developing healthy soil, the basis for any prosperous farm. He covers insurance, record keeping, land acquisition, and equipment.
I highly recommend this book
